We are have been going through a DVD series by N.T. Wright based on his book “Simply Christian”. But we are taking a short break to check out the “Truth Project” series starting next Monday night.

Each week we chill, play cards or whatever and then get into the study, starting and finishing with prayer.

We have covered Justice and Spirituality, Relationships and Beauty.

Wright calls these things ‘echos of a voice’, something we all hear but seem elusive though they guide us to these very fundamental needs and desires.

Here is where I am going to try and relay the fruits of our conversation and discussion. And we are already a few weeks in so forgive my stunted memory! There have been many truth bombs and minds blown, but I can’t remember many and especially not word for word.

Justice
- Despite our systems, it is elusive.
- It is more than people simply ‘getting what they deserve’ it is people being treated in a way that makes them MORE human, whether that means lifting them up or pulling the reigns.
- It is innate, because it is based on the value of life but it is also culture-sensitive and appears in many different ways (nature/nurture).
- It is easier to see injustice when you are mistreated (or think you are being mistreated).

Spirituality
- It is attractive.
- It is bubbling up from underneath us, we couldn’t contain it just within church walls if we tried.
- It is personal (and so often understood as fundamentally subjective).
- It contrasts with traditions and rituals, though it is often the basis for these traditions.

Relationships
- People in general live more and more disassociated from each other.
- I can’t remember too much of this one, anyone else please contribute!

Beauty
- True beauty is a reflection of God.
- Tension between admiring the quality of something and experiencing it as beautiful (music taste).
- Tension between honouring creation and worshiping the Creator.
- Relationship between beauty and creativity.
- Relationship between pain and creativity, and pain and beauty.
