Kingdom v. Empire - sense or nonsense?

Published by Dale under blog, sermons

(This is our 2nd ‘blog’ post - your feedback is encouraged and welcome!)

Recently, we kicked off our evening sermon series (click here for sermons) ‘The Way of the Kingdom’, which will look at various ways in which ‘the Kingdom way’ (the lifestyle formed and informed by Jesus’ life, teachings and Spirit) is worked out in real every-day life in the midst of the ‘empire’ (the lifestyle formed and informed by oppressive systems/structures ancient and modern).

What do you think about this ‘Kingdom v. Empire’ comparison?  Does it hold water (logically, biblically, historically, practically, etc.)?

To Creed or not to Creed?

Published by Dale under blog, web

(This is our first ‘blog’ post. These are meant to stimulate thought and interaction, so comments are welcome. Thanks!)

In our evening services, we’ve started a sermon series on the Apostle’s Creed. Baptists aren’t known for being a denomination that uses any Creeds. Why do you think that is?

To take things further, it has been said that the Judaism from which Christianity came was less concerned with ‘orthodoxy’ (right belief) than with ‘ortho-praxy’ (right action). What is the value of an itemised ‘list’ of correct beliefs?
