Every community is united by a set of shared beliefs. So, what do we believe?
- We believe the Bible is God’s inspired word. It is the authoritative place that we learn about God; human relationships with Him and others; and much of the world He has placed us in.
- We believe God has revealed Himself as a Trinity – a unified community; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
- We believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. He is both human and divine.
- We believe salvation (in all its forms) is experienced by God’s grace, through faith in Christ alone.
- We believe in the ministry and gifts of the Holy Spirit.
- We believe in the Great Commission. The church’s purpose is multi-dimensional and includes worship, teaching and equipping, the proclamation of the gospel (good news) and good works which includes helping those in need.
- We believe in full immersion baptism as the Biblical model.
- We believe in servant leadership – equipping people for the work of ministry.
- We believe in the ‘priesthood of all believers’. All believers are equally ministers and servants of Jesus Christ.
In the past, these kinds of statements have been used to exclude people. This is not the intent here. We recognise that even within the community there are diverse understandings of these beliefs. NBC continues to be open to dialogue that shapes and enhances understanding.
(Note: in addition to this, we also affirm the historic creeds such as the Apostle’s Creed and the Nicene Creed)
